Your first lesson
This guide walks you from “I just got invited as a learner” to “I finished my first course.”
Before you start
- A Wisteria sign-in (invited by your super_admin or auto-provisioned via your team’s integration).
- A device — phone, tablet, or laptop. The learner app works on all three.
Step 1 — Sign in
Use the link in your welcome email, or go directly to your team’s Wisteria URL. Enter your email + temporary password.
On first sign-in, you’ll be asked to set a real password. See Signing in for the first time for details.
Step 2 — Land on your dashboard
After signing in, you’ll land on /dashboard. You see:
- A list of courses assigned to you, sorted by due date.
- Each course card shows a cover image, title, description, and a “Due in X days” badge if there’s a deadline.
If your dashboard is empty, you don’t have any courses assigned yet. Ask your super_admin or trainer to confirm you’re in a department with courses delivered to it.
Step 3 — Pick a course
Click a course card. You’ll see:
- The course header — title, cover image, description.
- A list of modules in order.
- For each module: a status pill (Not started / In progress / Completed) and a “Start” or “Continue” button.
Click the first module.
Step 4 — Learn (flashcards)
Each module starts with flashcards. You’ll see one card at a time:
- Front — a question, statement, or scenario.
- Tap the card to flip and see the back — the answer or explanation.
- Swipe right to confirm you’ve understood, swipe left to come back to it later.
The deck saves your progress as you go. If you close the tab, you’ll resume where you left off.
When you’ve worked through every card, you advance to the quiz.
Step 5 — Take the quiz
Each quiz has multiple questions. The four types:
- Multiple-choice — tap an option.
- Fill in blank — type a short answer.
- Matching — pair items from the left column with items in the right column (dropdown selectors).
- Oral — tap the mic button, speak your answer, tap stop. Wisteria transcribes and grades.
You see your score at the end. The pass threshold is 70% by default (sometimes higher if the course requires it).
If you fail
- Wrong answers are saved.
- You can use Revise mode to work through only the questions you got wrong, then re-take the quiz.
- For oral questions specifically, you get two attempts in the moment. If you fail both, the question is appended to the end of the quiz as a retry — with two fresh attempts. Final fail = marked wrong in the results.
If you pass
- The module is marked Completed.
- Your dashboard updates.
- If this was the last module, you finish the course.
Step 6 — Finish the course
When you’ve passed every module, the course is marked Completed on your dashboard.
If the course has a certificate enabled, Wisteria emails it to you within a minute, and you can download it from the course detail view.
If recertification is enabled, your dashboard shows a “Next due in X months” indicator. When that date arrives, the course reappears for re-completion.
Mobile tips
- Add Wisteria to your home screen for a fast app-like experience. On iPhone: Safari → share button → “Add to Home Screen.” On Android: Chrome → menu → “Install app.”
- The swipe gesture works the same on phone and laptop trackpad.
- Oral questions need microphone access — if your phone asks for permission the first time, accept.
What if a course feels broken
- Flashcards aren’t loading — refresh once; if still empty, ask your trainer to check the module isn’t in draft.
- Quiz keeps saying I failed when I’m sure I answered correctly — for fill-in-the-blank, exact spelling matters (case is forgiving). For oral, the AI grades semantically — phrasing matters less than meaning.
- A course disappeared from my dashboard — usually means it was archived by your super_admin. Ask them.
