Super AdminCertificate template

Certificate template

Configure your workspace’s certificate template at Settings → Certificate Template.

For the concept of when certificates get issued, see Certificates in concepts.

Two render modes

Choose at the top of the page.

Field-based (default)

Wisteria provides a clean, branded layout. You configure:

  • Logo — upload your company logo (PNG, JPG, or SVG; recommended 400×400, transparent background)
  • Accent colour — pick from a palette of curated colours or paste a hex value
  • Signature — name + title (typically the super admin or training lead)

Preview updates live as you change fields.

Use field-based when:

  • You don’t have a specific certificate design to mirror.
  • You want certificates to render reliably without ongoing design work.
  • Your compliance team doesn’t have strict layout requirements.

Custom background overlay

Upload your own PDF background. Wisteria overlays:

  • Learner full name
  • Course title
  • Completion date
  • Certificate ID (for verification)

You drag each field onto the preview to position it. For each field, you can set:

  • X / Y position in millimetres from top-left
  • Font size in points
  • Font — system fonts; “Helvetica” / “Times” / “Manrope” if loaded
  • Colour — hex

Use custom background when:

  • Your organisation has an existing printed certificate design.
  • Compliance regulations require a specific layout.
  • You want a certificate that’s visually distinct from “obviously a SaaS auto-issued template.”

What every certificate includes (regardless of mode)

  • Learner full name (the value at completion time; if their name changes after, the certificate still shows the old name)
  • Course title
  • Completion date
  • A unique certificate ID

These can’t be removed — they’re the auditable record. They CAN be repositioned (in custom mode) or styled (font, colour).

Per-course toggle

A certificate is only issued for courses where issue_certificate = true in Course Settings. The trainer or super_admin sets this per course. Wisteria doesn’t auto-issue for every course.

Preview a certificate

Click Preview on the template page. Wisteria generates a sample certificate with placeholder data (“Jane Doe”, “Sample Course”, today’s date) so you can see exactly what gets issued.

Replacing the template later

You can change the template at any time. The change applies to certificates issued from that point onward. Already-issued certificates are not regenerated — they stay as they were.

If you need to re-issue a historical certificate (e.g. learner asks for a copy), Wisteria re-generates it on download using the current template, not the one in effect at original issuance. If consistency-over-time matters to you for compliance, archive a copy of each certificate elsewhere as it’s issued.
